Een nieuwe feministische stroming was geboren: ultra-connected, ultra-geseksualiseerd, en populair. Maar waar en hoe kan je jezelf als jonge vrouw in deze strijd positioneren, in het licht van de ambivalente macht van de popcultuur? Welke wapens kies je best?
i-clit volgt deze momenten van kweedsbarheid, wanneer men wisselt tussen nieuwe vormen van onderdrukking en oprecht empowerment.
Danser en choreograaf Mercedes Dassy draagt met haar nieuwe creatie bij tot het debat rond de emancipatie van vrouwen die de patriarchale Lage Landen in oproer brengt.

Deze solo onderzoek exploreert verschillende hedendaagse feministische trends en hun connectie met de popcultuur. Wanneer kunnen we de popularisering van feminisme als een oprechte en toegankelijke sociale eis zien, en niet als een marketing stunt?
Mercedes Dassy (*1990 in Brussel) begon reeds als kind met Afrikaanse dans en klassiek ballet. Ze combineert school en danslessen tot het einde van haar secundair, terwijl ze ook op tournee was met de show “Indian Curry” (BOZAR/fAbuleus). Daarna studeerde ze aan de Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance hedendaagse dans en volgde ook les aan de Tisch School of Art/Dance Department aan de New York University. Sinds ze in 2012 terugkeerde naar Brussel, werkt Mercedes in dans, theater, performancekunst en videokunst. In het kader van “Brussels, dance!” ging haar solo i-clit, een coproductie van La Balsamine en Charleroi danse, Centre chorégraphique de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, in 2018 in première.

i-clit tracks these moments of fragility, when one oscillates between new forms of oppressions and genuine empowerment. At a time when the emancipation of women continues to stir the patriarchal lowlands, the dancer and choreographer Mercedes Dassy densifies the debate with her new creation.
i-clit denounces and questions the representation of women's bodies in our societies. This solo explores different contemporary feminist trends and their connection to pop culture. When can we consider the popularization of feminism a genuine and accessible social claim rather than a marketing stunt?
Mercedes Dassy (*1990 in Brussels) started dancing African dance and classical ballet as a child. She combined school and dance classes until the end of secondary school, all the while touring the show “Indian Curry” (BOZAR/fAbuleus). She went on to study contemporary dance at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance and followed a summer program at the Tisch School of Art/Dance Department at New York University. After returning to Brussels in 2012, she works in the domains of dance, theatre, performance art and video art. Her solo show i-clit, a coproduction of La Balsamine and Charleroi danse, Centre chorégraphique de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, premiered at “Brussels, dance!” in 2018.
